Clarification of Wolflore policy concerning plagiarism

Recently it has come to our attention our policy on plagiarism and the usage of game assets was not as clear as we intended. The following is a clarification of that policy.

For the purposes of this clarification, I will dispense with the legalese and just go with "theft". Theft means taking anything, game assets, intellectual property, or the breaking of an End User License Agreement.

First and foremost:

Mod authors are *always* innocent until *proven* guilty.

We will not pull mods or ban members during consideration of allegations of theft. All sides will have the opportunity to present their position and the burden of proof will be on the accuser.

We will not accept allegations made by any but the allegedly injured party. In order to verify the identity of the person lodging the complaint, he or she must accept correspondence through a published email address associated with the mod in question. In a nutshell, we will email the contact address in the readme of the mod. If you no longer have access to that address, you must update the mod at the existing mod hosting site with a valid email address.

Bottom line: if you didn't author or co-author the mod content which has allegedly been stolen or if you aren't on the legal team of the company whose EULA has allegedly been broken, have the actual injured party contact us. We do not entertain allegations from third parties.

As stated above, the burden of proof is on the accuser. If you are the injured party, it is your responsibility to provide credible evidence of theft. You must do your own legwork. If you just give us titles and links to two mods, it isn't sufficient. We have no intention of initiating investigations. Our responsibility extends to establishing the identity of the one making the complaint and verifying the evidence provided.

If we find there is sufficient evidence to support a claim of theft, the accused will be given sufficient time to present their position and/or rectify any error on their part. The accused will have the right to confront their accuser. Mod authors will be informed of all accusations against them and told who has made the report.

Sanctions will be considered pending the response of the accused and the behavior of the accuser. The mod in question will remain available for download and there will be no suspensions of accounts until the final decision is made.
