After checking things out, I was messing about with it, and things got a little strange when I tried to mix 'n match the ant suits. For some reason some pieces of red did not want to show up when matched with green. I don't really see it as a problem, but it sure is different. Here's a look:

After checking things out, I was messing about with it, and things got a little strange when I tried to mix 'n match the ant suits. For some reason some pieces of red did not want to show up when matched with green. I don't really see it as a problem, but it sure is different. Here's a look:


Ok, for some reason why i have yet to figure out,
if you are dressed as eg: the red ant and you try to use the green ant head, it works.
Try to use the green ant body and it doesnt work, until you use the green ant legs.
Same if you start off as green and try to mix with red.
For some reason, it wont all look right, until you equip the corresponding colour legs to the body.

I dont know why anyone would want to try to mix the armour pieces any way :meshoot:
It doesnt make any sense as the colours are so totally different. :unsure:
So i dont see it as a problem at all, in fact i can say in the read me,
along with the unequipping your current pauldrons bit,
that you cannot mix the different ant coloured armours,
you must use one colour for all 3 pieces, which is common sense.

Now with that settled for the meantime, the biggest problem remaining is the sound.
It is still repeating really fast, continuous, over and over and over.
Not even a second delay between the sounds, more like .000000001 secs.
The sound seems to stop when the ant is dead now, so that seems ok.
Just have to fix the speed, but as i have already said, i intend to find another sound file,
so then i can try it again and see if it can come ok.

Due to the hassles with this stuff, i am put off a bit with it,
so its no longer a priority with me and i will do it sometime,
later when i feel like it.
Not going to get bogged down with this like with the piper mod.
Have to keep moving on or will stagnate and give up altogether.

The sound replays like that because it's set to do so by the PlayLoopSound function. Loop means that the sound repeats endlessly, starting as soon as it ends. If you want the sound to be intermittent or playing randomly, that has to be scripted, as in PlaySound "AntNoise" if random == some arbitrary number, or a variable set on a timer. Or it could be tied to a Random and checked on a timer. Not so difficult, really. You just have to decide how you want it.

Let me know when you're ready to carry on, and I'll set something up. I could have done it earlier, but since you had a playloop script, I thought that was the way you wanted it. Silly me, eh? :meshoot:

As for the script to do the sound, i dont know lol.
Thats why i was asking if anyone knew of a better script,
than sound flies and sound chimes.
Anyhow i will just have to go with sound flies script,
as that was the one i used to test it.
Unless someone can say a better script to use.



I said twice earlier that i was only using the sound flies script,
because with my zilch knowledge of scripting, it was all i could think of.
I asked twice if anyone knew of a better script to use,
never got an answer to that question, so just went ahead with the flies script.
If i dont know and i am not told, then i just have to do what i am able to do. :meshoot:

In the instances where in the past, i have been doing stuff and i have problems getting it to work,
i just have given up on it, rather than trying to seek help.
That was mainly due to there was no-one that could help me,
with what i was doing, as it was out of the box and hadnt been done before etc etc.
I get loads of ideas and try them out, some work most dont. :biggrin:
I am busy with my art at the moment, but i will finish this sometime.

I don't think there is anything here to argue about. I certainly wouldn't want to offend you over it, and I wasn't laying blame in any way. It's just one of those problems that occurs because of miscommunication. When you asked for a better script, the reason you didn't get an answer is simply that "better" depends on what you have in mind. Asking if anyone knows a better script is not likely to get a direct response simply because a better script will have to be written, and doesn't yet exist to point to. Especially when you don't know the parameters of expected results.

If you just want to play a sound when the PC is in the vicinity, the sound scripts work fine, and are probably the best available... within limits. Personally, the idea of constant noise from an insect is not out of character, I mean think of crickets, eh? Since ant noise is problematic in reality, it's hard to say what an ant should sound like like, or how much sound it should generate. I kinda thought that since an ant is a hive insect, constant communication would be a norm so it could could get instruction from the hive, and long antennae reinforce that idea. So to me, there seemed no better alternative, though I would have liked to stop the sound when the menu was open.

Back to scripting... when looking for a script to do a particular thing, it can be difficult to tell exactly what is wanted when you are not the modder, and there will always be a difference of perception between the modder and the scripter. That's just life. A modder knows what results or effects he wants from a script perhaps without knowing what is or is not possible, but a scripter knows what is or is not possible but likely only has a best guess as to what is wanted unless it's spelled out in specifics. That will always leave a gap that is hard to avoid. Not your fault nor mine, it's just the way things are. :)

In college, a future programmer will likely be asked to provide detailed direction to another student in a simple task. The task is something like tying one's shoes. It sounds simple, but almost all students fail at this attempt... try it sometime.

I wasnt blaming anyone or anything like that, only saying what i had earlier said. :shrug: :meshoot:

Anyhow after rethinking it and trying out a few things,
i have decided to scrap it all and start again from the beginning.
I have created a new race called Ant and not allocated any body parts for it,
therefore creating an invisble race.

Have equipped it with the armour and given it rough stats to start with.
Couple of poison spells just for test.
Put it ingame and went in, got attacked right away by a silent ant.
Killed the ant looted the ant for the armour and there was no body,
when i looted the armour.
So it appears to be working as of now.
Need to do some more things and some more experiments
and will see the results. :afro:

Have been experimenting more with the invisible race.
Not with the ant but trying stuff, to do weird enemies.
Heres one i ve been making up, have to put it ingame now and see what happens. :chinscratch:

Heres what happened.
Went in and it attacked me.
I gave it an imperial shield and sword, as it was a bit overpowered with the daedric stuff.

So i killed it and then looted the body for the stuff,
then there was nothing there. :shades:

There was one thing I wanted to mention about the ant and the mix 'n match thing. You said you didn't know why anyone would even try to mix them, and I can tell you why I did... Here where I live we have a variety of ants that have red heads and black to brown bodies with the legs usually being a touch lighter. They look wicked, but they are really a comparatively "good" ant, they rarely bite.

In that one picture, the result was a headless humanoid torso rising above the ant body, and if a weapon was drawn, it was in the hand of the torso. I know this is a touch crazy, but I thought it looked kinda centaur-like, and I wondered if it would be possible to do with a horse body? A headless horse-man, eh? How cool would that be!

Well if you wanted to mix and match them,
you now can with n/p, that i have found so far.
The invisible race means that you dont get any body parts,
such as the chest sticking up at any time.

As for a centaur or that, it would depend on the meshes.
MJY made the ant meshes,for me and between us we figured out,
how to set them up, but he did all the Max work.
I will check the meshes out in Max and see if i can learn anything.
