Question on Symbols

Postby DARoot » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:57 am

I'm new here, and having trouble understanding what some of the symbology used un the Forums represents.

For example, most topics have a round thing with lines (text lines?) on the left -- sometimes, the lines "scroll up", sometimes there's a yellow or green or red circle/smilyface on it, sometimes the circles look like lightbulbs...
Either way, popup you get with hovering the cursor usually just says "No New Posts" or "No Unread Posts."

Anyway, is there a page somewhere here that lists all these symbols and what they mean?
[I did find "Mr. Green" at the end of the user-available smilies shown to the right of this posting screen, but still don't know what it means...]

Thanks for any help

The icon posted just to the left of the circle is purely at the discretion on the OP. These are found just above the subject line when posting. Flames within the circle denotes a hot topic, if a sub forum is showing red then there are new posts within that forum, some of the sub forums have child boards these are denoted by a white square to the lower right hand side of the circle as with the Morrowind forum. Basically if you see a large red circle then there is something you haven't read, by clicking the title you are taken to the first post in the thread, however next to that will be a small orange square, if you click that square you are taken to the first unread post in that thread.
If it were to rain soup....I'd have a fork!

DARoot, is your style (forum skin) the default blue and white one (prosilver), or did you change it to something else? The reason I ask is because we have four different styles to choose from and all four display the forum differently. What Swords said about the topic icons is true - when you start a new topic or use the full reply editor (not the white box at the bottom of a thread), you can select a topic icon that can either be informative (question/alert) or whimsical (mr. green). The other icons vary by the style being used, but I usually use the view new posts link at the top to see what I've read and what I haven't.
