I was hoping Hrnchamd would get back with you, Raym, but I guess he got busy during the holiday weekend (today's Labor Day in the states). I still think it's a DirectX 9.0c error. All I can suggest is to reinstall your video drivers, then re-run that package I linked to earlier. Hopefully Hrnchamd will have a better answer for us soon.

Raym, you're using Vista, right? For some reason I thought you were using Windows 7. Anyway, Vista has certain...issues when it comes to running older games. The FAQ over on the officials mentions this when installing the game:

When setting up Morrowind on a Vista Machine. Let Morrowind go ahead install to the default position. When it is finished installing. Right Click on the Morrowind Icon and follow the procedures of Compatibility. Open your C: drive and create a new folder and name it Bethesda. Then copy the Morrowind folder from the deafualt positon and install it in the new folder you just created.

IE: default folder: C:/Program Files/Bethesda

New folder location: C:/Bethseda

I would also recommend that you download and install DirectX 9c and make sure that it is the newest version for your vista system. Morrowind and DirectX 10 due not play too well together. They will play but they will also cause a lot of CTD's, so try downgrading to 9c. You don't have to uninstall 10 just install 9C and I am sure most of your CTD's will be eliminated.

Windows 7 doesn't have that install issue because you can pick your installation folder. I hope that helps.

No, no, I'm using Windows 7. Though that error message when I try to install .net 2.0 speaks about incompatibility with Vista.

Hmm. I wonder why DirectX wouldn't install for you then. Did you run it as admin?

DirectX installed fine, or so it says. It's just with .net 2.0 that I'm blocked because it says it's not supported by Vista (that's the message).

However, yes, I did run it as admin.

XE doesn't use .Net and 2.0 is already part of the OS for Windows Vista/7. The reason I asked about DirectX is because it looks like your error messages were a result of not having 9.0c installed.

After some quick searching, the problem *could* be because video acceleration got disabled on your setup, Raym. What video card are you using? There may be a new driver out for it.

I have Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, driver version 8.17.13.142. I downloaded and installed the last driver available from Nvidia website this Friday.

I have a 460, so your card should be more than capable of handling MGE XE. Have you tried completely uninstalling it and running Morrowind without it?
Delete MGEXEgui, mge3, d3d8.dll and dinput.dll from your Morrowind directory.

I'd try that and if MW works fine, add MGE XE back in and re-run the MGEUI.exe.
